VENDING MACHINE BLUES

The fellow asked, “if you could help someone, would you?”

I said yes.

Later on, I had to say that I could not help him. I had effectively changed my answer to no.

And then he said he had seen me before. This fact made me feel ashamed that I did not remember. It seemed he was saving this piece of information until it was the most effective.

It worked.

But I am pretty sure I never met him.

He was quite articulate and made a case for just helping. That’s what he said he does — he helps individuals and refuses to give to organizations. They hate him for that.

He said “excuse me” to 109 people on the street and everyone immediately responded “I’m sorry.” He couldn’t even explain how he left his wallet beside his phone at his house. No one was doing what he did for people everyday.

He told me that I was the 110th person. And it was meant to be, since I looked at him longer than normal.

He wore a trench coat and had nice eyes.

This is my second experience with a ghost.

WARMEST WINTER IN SF SAYS TWAIN

Who knows, it may be a misquote. But I believe it for some reason.

Go outside.
