I create active photographs.
Active in their creative engagement with the community and the representation of a current issue, time and place. I strive for inclusive visual communication. Partipactory art. I aim for images that reflect and comment on the interplay of camera, subject, viewer and community. I promote an organic presentation of local issues and profiles. Above all, I believe in providing documents of everyday people, places and interactions.
I believe too often art is allowed to transcend judgment -- lack of praise for art is equated with a viewer's lack of understanding. I want to appropriate the canvas to the viewer and allow the final piece to be a product of both the artist and the real and imaginative community. A dialogue.
The photograph is simply material for a start.
Tangibly and ideally, I hope to connect me and we.
These are the goals and not achievements.
These are the ideals and not realities.
But they are the roots of my art and the motivation for growth.
...Oh, and I also like toy cameras...a lot.
